The tour, kicking off this weekend and spanning five concerts in four northeastern U.S. cities, introduces a powerful new concept in political infotainment. "AUTHORITARIAN IDOL is a very special reality show," Maxx says. "The time has come for a change of leadership -- and this revolution will be televised." Each show on the tour will feature a full serving of classic Maxx Klaxon jams, plus the screening of a new 3-minute episode of the AUTHORITARIAN IDOL video series. The series follows a group of electronic avatars, who compete to become the next Authoritarian Idol. "Their names will be new... but their faces and voices will be familiar," Maxx promises. "Think of it as a fusion of 'Hardball,' 'Survivor,' and 'Max Headroom.'" Audiences will get their chance to help choose the winner. "You will cast an electronic vote, which may or may not be counted," Maxx says. "But remember: if voting really changed anything, it would be illegal." The climactic show, on October 29, will feature the entire AUTHORITARIAN IDOL series, ending with the shocking finale. "You don't have to wait till November 5 to know who will be our new supreme leader," Maxx says. "We'll have the results a week early." Four stops on the tour will be part of the NPX / Northeast Power Exchange electronic music series. The complete tour schedule is below:

This Toronto-based event series, created and curated by writer Sheila Heti, features three ordinary people speaking on subjects of their own choosing -- but outside their areas of expertise. Speakers are allowed to know a few things about the topic already, and do research. After each lecture, questions are taken from the audience. Drinks are always close at hand.
